... New information...

The center of Tropical Storm Hanna is now about 375 miles south of
Wilmington. A Tropical Storm Warning and Hurricane Watch remain in
effect for coastal eastern North Carolina. A Tropical Storm
Warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected within
the warning area within the next 24 hours. A Hurricane Watch
warning means that hurricane conditions are also possible.

... Areas affected...

This statement recommends actions to be taken by persons in...
eastern North Carolina.

... Storm information...

At 1100 am EDT... the center of Tropical Storm Hanna was located
near latitude 28.9 north... longitude 79.2 west or about 375 miles...
south of Wilmington North Carolina.

Hanna is moving toward the northwest near 20 mph. A gradual turn
to the north with an increase in forward speed is expected later
this afternoon. On the forecast track... the center of Hanna will be near
the southeast coast of the United States tonight. However... rains and
winds associated with Hanna will reach the coast well in advance
of the center.

Maximum sustained winds remain near 65 mph... with higher gusts.
Only slight strengthening is forecast prior to landfall...
although it is still possible for Hanna to become a hurricane.

The minimum central pressure just reported by the aircraft was
980 mb... 28.94 inches.

... Watches/warnings...

No additional hazards are in effect.

... Precautionary/preparedness actions...

All precautionary and preparedness actions should be rushed to
completion this morning before conditions deteriorate later

A 2 to 4 foot storm surge is possible tonight continuing into
Saturday along the coast south of Cape Lookout. North of Cape
Lookout the surge is expected to average 1 to 3 feet. Storm
surges of 2 to 4 feet will also be possible along the banks of
the Neuse and Pamlico rivers.

The surf is expected to become very rough this afternoon through
Saturday with a high threat of dangerous rip currents.

Tropical storm force winds are expected to spread north through
the area this afternoon and continue into Saturday morning. The
